Fife Pride to become “SCIO”

Fife Pride was formed in 2017 as a constituted voluntary organisation. In 2024, we are looking to become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). This is a change in legal structure that gives protection to those involved in Fife Pride, and also helps to ensure the long-term existence of the organisation. It means that the organisation will become a registered charity, and enables us to apply for funding that we can’t apply for under our current structure.

The process is…

  • Stage One – Draft constitution
  • Stage Two – Public consultation on proposed new constitution (two weeks).
  • Stage Three – EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) called to formally agree to SCIO move, and dissolution of the existing organisation at a suitable time thereafter.
  • Stage Four – Application to the Scottish Charity Regulator for incorporation of a new SCIO (process time of approximately 100 days)
  • Stage Five – SCIO created, assets transferred from existing organisation.
  • Stage Six – Existing organisation wound up.

We have now completed stage one and have had the new constitution prepared by J & H Mitchell Solicitors.

We are now beginning the public constitution (stage two) which is your
opportunity to become involved and feedback any thoughts to us. If you would like
to read the proposed SCIO constitution, please Contact Us and we will send you a
copy.

We will end the public consultation on Tuesday 12 December and then review any
feedback we have received with the legal team and make any updates we believe to
be necessary. We will then give the 2 weeks notice to formally call the EGM
(Stage Three) which we plan to happen in early January 2024.

This is a really exciting time for Fife Pride as we look to becoming a more
“official” charitable organisation with a strong future and loads more amazing
prides to come!
